Step-by-step guides to accessing myGov, Medicare and Centrelink from your phone, tablet or computer.
What is myGov and what can I use it for? βΌ
myGov (my.gov.au) is a secure Australian Government website that gives you access to a range of government services in one place β using a single username and password.
Once you have a myGov account, you can link it to:
Medicare β view your card, check claims, update bank details for rebates
Centrelink β manage Age Pension payments, update your details
ATO β lodge your tax return, view assessments
My Health Record β view your medical history and prescriptions
Aged Care β access My Aged Care information
π‘ You only need one myGov account to access all of these services.
How do I create a myGov account? βΌ
Creating a myGov account is free and takes around 10 minutes. You will need your email address and mobile phone.
Go to my.gov.au β type this directly into your browser.
Click "Create a myGov account".
Enter your email address and create a password.
Enter the confirmation code sent to your email.
Set a secret question for account recovery.
Once created, link your services from the myGov home page.
π‘ The myGov help line is 132 307 (Option 1) β Monday to Friday.
How do I stay safe when using myGov? βΌ
myGov will never ask for your password by email, text or phone β if someone does, it is a scam
Check the web address shows my.gov.au with the padlock icon before logging in
Enable two-factor authentication for extra security
Report suspicious messages to Scamwatch at scamwatch.gov.au
π‘ myGov sends notifications to your myGov Inbox β not to your personal email. Always log in directly to check for messages.
What can I do with Medicare online? βΌ
Once Medicare is linked to myGov, you can manage most Medicare needs without visiting a service centre:
View and download your Medicare card
Update your bank account details for rebates
View your claim history and PBS medication history
Access your My Health Record
Manage organ and tissue donation registration
π‘ If your doctor bulk bills, your rebate is processed automatically. If you pay upfront, submit a claim through myGov β rebates usually arrive within 2β3 business days.
What can I do with Centrelink online? βΌ
Linking Centrelink to myGov gives you access to my Centrelink, where you can:
View your payment details and history
Update your bank account details for payments
View and manage your Concession Card
Upload documents Centrelink has requested
Send and receive messages β avoiding phone wait times
Update your address and contact details
